BJP’s K Annamalai Hits Out at MK Stalin: ‘How Stupid Can You Become?’ Over Tamil Nadu’s 'Rs' Move

Tamil Nadu Budget Logo Controversy: BJP's K Annamalai Criticizes MK Stalin
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, known for his opposition to the National Education Policy (NEP) and the three-language policy, recently unveiled the logo for the 2025-26 state budget featuring the Tamil symbol in place of the Rupee symbol 'Rs'.
This move sparked criticism from BJP Tamil Nadu chief K Annamalai, who slammed the DMK-led government for replacing the widely recognized Indian currency symbol. Annamalai described the decision as "stupid" and took to social media platform X to voice his disapproval.

"The DMK government's state budget for 2025-26 replaces the Rupee Symbol designed by a Tamilian, which was adopted by the whole of Bharat and incorporated into our Currency. Thiru Udhay Kumar, who designed the symbol, is the son of a former DMK MLA. How stupid can you become, Thiru @mkstalin?" Annamalai wrote.
Political Tensions Escalate
This controversy emerged amid ongoing tensions between the DMK and the central government over the NEP and Tamil Nadu's firm stance against the three-language policy. CM Stalin has consistently voiced strong opposition to the NEP, branding it as a "saffronised policy" that promotes Hindi rather than focusing on national development.
Stalin criticized the central government for allegedly withholding Tamil Nadu's rightful share of funds due to the state's refusal to adopt the NEP.
"We are asking for our rightful share of tax funds, paid with our hard-earned efforts. Is it fair to threaten us by refusing to release these funds for the welfare of 43 lakh schools?" Stalin questioned. He claimed that the NEP was designed to exclude students from education rather than promote inclusivity.
"We would have welcomed the policy if it genuinely aimed to bring everyone into education, but NEP does the opposite. That's why we strongly oppose it," Stalin added.
Upcoming Budget Presentation
The Tamil Nadu state budget for 2025-26, featuring the controversial new logo, is scheduled to be presented in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on March 14, 2025.
